I wrote Mom, asking, “you’re sure he’s in the Philippines? In terms of keeping up with Dad, that’s more information than we often get.” And I pointed out that we shouldn’t worry too much, ’cause, as often, a local woman had taken him under her wing. (Local men do, too. But it’s usually local women.)
Mom wrote back:
No, we do not know that he is in Philippines. He had been there since leaving here, repairing and improving boat, putting on supplies. That was Cebu, Phil. Then he said he was ready to go but would move to another point on Philippines in preparation for trip to Malaysia via Borneo, and said that because of winds, departure would be around Christmas. And not to expect to hear from him for about 2 months and possibly no communication from other point on Phil. So by that I assume he’d left his safe harbor, but how far he got we have no idea. Because the snail mail is taking so long he may be on an outer island, but question is how far did he get. So we sit and wait.Yes, I smiled over the fact that he again had found a remarkable woman to look after him– No matter where he’s been in world there has been a woman to help him with computer, to help him shop, to translate, to guide him to right bus, to stores…. So be it.
That he can go to Borneo but can’t find the store sounds like someone *I* would be related to.

It sounds like this is a voyage of faith for your whole family as much as it is for him.
