I just heard that John M. Ford died. If you knew him, you knew him as Mike, or Dr. Mike, but his middle name wasn’t Michael. It was Milo, which I always thought was cool. I named a Bordertown character for him. I loved him like a brother, and I’m furious with him, because he [...]

Life’s being lifelike (in busy, not dire, ways), so I’m retreating from the internet. I’ve removed everyone from what LJ insists is my “friends” list. I may check back in on LJ folks later. Spent four and a half hours working on the driveway. We had a second major flood (I think they called this one a 35-year flood) a few days ago, which deepened the wash another foot or two. I had spent an hour or two of shoveling and got it to where Emma and I could [...]

I’ve been so busy that I forgot that Emma and I agreed to lead another weekend writing workshop at Pima Community College on Sept. 22-24. I don’t have a flyer, and I probably won’t hear back from the organizer until Monday or Tuesday, but if it’s like last year’s, it’ll be a lot of fun.
These [...]

Earth-like planets may be more common than once thought, says new U. of Colorado-Penn State study:
More than one-third of the giant planet systems recently detected outside Earth’s solar system may harbor Earth-like planets, many covered in deep oceans with potential for life, according to a new study led by the University of Colorado at [...]
